== Ordering Division Honors & Completion Percentage of an Honor ==

I have two questions for you on honors:

I have a few Pathfinders here that just recently completed an honor from another division. How does one go about ordering it? They are from South America and Australia. But they are not under the NAD [AdventSource].

My other question is, I am hearing rumors that if a person completes 80% of the honor they can receive the honor. Is this true and if so does it apply to classwork also?

:Hi [[User:Ixoekea|Ixoekea]], here are my answers:

:1) We have a page in the Pathfinder Wiki that gives a general explanation about ordering and purchasing regional honors from other divisions found [[Adventist_Youth_Honors_Answer_Book/Purchase|here]] (it should probably be updated a bit). The reality is that in order to receive the patch, you must contact any of the official vendors from that division. Many times this might be from stores within those countries (similar to Advent''Source'' in the NAD), or it might be from local conference offices of these territories.

:The only real way to know is to contact these conferences or stores. This can be done by e-mail or telephone. You would have to do some research to find out who to contact in those divisions. For the SAD, in order to contact them, you will have to either speak their native language (Portuguese or Spanish) or find some means of interpretation services. Or hope someone there speaks English!

:I have some contacts within the SAD where I have purchased items before so I might be able to assist if you would like.

:2) An honor is completed when all requirements have been fully satisfied. The patch is only awarded to those who have duly fulfilled all necessary requirements. I have never heard of this «80%» before, but it is completely untrue.

:Some honors have requirements where you can choose between different options to complete; this might make it ''seem'' like you are only completing 80%, but in reality you are still satisfying all necessary requirements.

:The same goes for IA curricula. All necessary requirements must be completed fully in order to be invested in that level. Each level has the basic requirements and the advanced requirements. If a Pathfinder is only completing the basic level, then there is much material in the booklet that he or she will not complete, since it is not necessary for basic level. If a Pathfinder wishes to be invested in the advanced level (and therefore receive the advanced ribbon bar), he or she must fulfill all advanced requirements as well. Again, this disparity might make it ''seem'' as if only 80% is being done, but everything necessary is being completed.

:If this 80% rule were true (and it's not), how would you measure that 80%? If you have 10 questions, only complete 8? What if you have only two questions? Completing only one question would make it only 50% complete, not 80%. How would you choose which questions to complete?

:Most honors have a «theoretical» and a «practical» component. For example, [[Adventist_Youth_Honors_Answer_Book/Arts_and_Crafts/Duct_Tape|Duct Tape]] has questions about what is duct tape and how can you use it. It also has a part where you must actually build something with duct tape. So if only 80% were required to receive the patch, could a Pathfinder technically only complete the book answer work and not have to actually use duct tape?

:This idea of 80% completion goes against the philosophy and purpose of the AY honors, which can be found [http://www.pathfindersonline.org/honors/new-honors-submission here]. If indeed you are in contact with people who think this is true, using tact and spiritual guidance, please let them now that this is not true and can be construed as dishonest.

I believe exactly what you said as that is why I was looking for a more correct answer. 80% could apply to all the research but not to the hands on experience. I'm curious to know where they came up with this decision. I know that some clubs here require the Pathfinders to also to write the final exam for each honour that the director would make up. ::::PathfinderShirts has a long and tumultous history behind it. Long story short, they are a company based in Florida that basically provides a lot of custom-made club-centric material. They sell of lot of novelties and accessories where they kind of slap on the club logo you want: whistles with Adventurer logo, tie pins with MG logo, Medals, etc.

::::Some conferences have used them as a provider for conference-specific uniform accessories (Chesapeake uses them for an Adv. MG scarf; some conferences use them for non-sanctioned TLT scarves; California uses them for their Discovery Club; Florida used to use them for the 8-star MG logos). They duplicate much of what Advent''Source'' sells by way of uniforms, but it is usually a little more expensive.

::::PathfinderShirts is not allowed to sell any IA emblems or other investiture material since they are not an official provider for the NAD. You can use them to buy lots of interesting accessories, but these things are usually not a required part of any uniform.

::::I have used them in the past for drill uniform accessories, Pathfinder of the Year medals, and other neat little accessories that I have given to Pathfinders just as novelty gifts for Investiture. ==Series Category==
I was toying with the idea of either adding a section or a category regarding to series. By series, I mean honors that deal with very similar themes or requirements, and can be taught close together. Most honors do not fall into a series category, but I think it might be helpful for the ones that do. Here are some series I can think of now:
* First Aid series (Basic Rescue, Basic First Aid, Standard First Aid, CPR, etc.)
* Creationism/Origins series (Creationism, Biblical Archaeology, Fossils, etc.)
* Camping (Fire Building, Campcraft, Camping Skills, Tents, etc.)
* Other possible series: bugs (or insects if you want to be technical), acrobatics, botany, Bible studies...

I wouldn't want to just start making up series willy nilly, but there are honors that have been taught together or close together for a while now throughout several clubs and conferences I have visited. This might give a guide or reference for anyone that might not realize they can teach several honors close together and use the same resources and materials.

:I like the idea, especially if someone goes to a Zoo or an aquarium, (Sports in school) etc, There are many honours that can be done in that one setting if one so chooses. Hey everyone,

The HTML5video tag no longer works. I have installed a new extension called [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Widgets Widgets] along with a YouTube script that does the same thing (and with other scripts, we could do many other things as well). I've gone though the wiki and replaced all of the English language html5video tags, but I may have missed some. You can't just search for "HTML5video" because it's a tag, and the search results reveal nothing. :-/ So keep your eyes open for any strays I may have missed. The syntax for the widget is a bit easier:

I do know that the extension has been deprecated and archived at mediawiki, but the only way they could disable it on our setup is if it relied on something they were hosting. I wanted to try to put a giant X or some other image over the patch images of the SAD honors. Something like [[File:Heavy red "x".png|50 px]]. This is so that the image is still observable to the user, but it will be completely obvious that the patch is not available through Advent''Source''. :Maybe. I'm looking into it. [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Images this] looks promising (the packed-overlay mode), but it would require that we place the image in a gallery. That might not be a problem, but it might make it harder to get it to look right. Also, I don't know why it doesn't seem to work for the "East American Division" version. ::Hah - there was an undocumented argument to set the alignment. I set it to "center" and it is now centered. The "East American Division" was a stand-in for the NAD, and since its insignia_source argument was blank, it does not superimpose the unavailability notice. That is, it was a test of the NAD case. It doesn't select that based on the division, but rather, based on the insignia_source. The superimpose template flags the SPD honors, but that is accurate, as the ones we have correctly marked, like Australian Birds or Folk Art, are not really available at Advent''Source'' either. This makes me think about the regional honors. Would it make sense to now include them in an indexed list on their own page, with the superimposed image? == Renaming of honors and categories in Spanish (please excuse the dust) ==

You will see me renaming in Spanish lots of honors and categories and trying to fix subsequent pages and things they are linked to. This is due to the General Conference having published the Honors Poster (which can be found at [http://www.pathfindersonline.org/35-news/resourcing/436-new-honors-poster-ffic-release-from-gc-pathfinder-ministries PathfindersOnline]) and changing the name of many honors and categories. Advent''Source'' decided to update their Spanish versions to coincide and match the GC names.

This makes it cumbersome and time-consuming to change everything here on the Wiki, but I also like uniformity. Some of the changes make sense but many of them I do not agree with. Either way, just please excuse the mess if you see broken links, unfinished translations or differing things. Also, just grammatically, Spanish does not capitalize all words in a phrase as a title, only the first word. == Wikibooks Pathfinder Honor Answers Update and Updated Honors Workbook ==

Hello all,

2 questions:

1) I have 2 honors workbook, one from 2000 (or so) and one from 2014. However, there have been some new honors added since 2014 (i.e. Mobile Technology honor, in 2016). Is there an updated honor workbook coming to include the newer honors from 2014 onward, such as the Mobile Technology honor (and others)?

2) The current Wikibooks Pathfinder Honor Answers website isn't updated to reflect a lot of the newer honors, even the 2014 Honors book. Will the Wikibooks website be updated anytime soon?

If we are to broaden our young people's minds and help them grow, us leaders to keep up with the pace and bring everything up-to-date.

:Hi Kris and welcome to the Wiki! Great questions. Here are my responses, you might get other responses from others too:

:1) The two workbooks you have, are they from the General Conference or from Advent''Source''? I ask because the GC Honors has not been updated since their last 2014 edition. However, Advent''Source'' prints material specifically for the North American Division and usually has their material up to date, according to the NAD. I would not know when the GC plans to update their material, especially since Andrés Peralta took over as the new world leader for clubs and is still trying to learn as much as he can. Many times the GC & NAD requirements can differ, so that might also be a discrepancy you also see; this wouldn't necessarily mean one is outdated, only that different versions exist according to their region.

:2) This Wiki Answer Book is actually the most updated honors resource in the world. It is comprised of volunteers within the Pathfinder community who are constantly updating the content and keeping it to the day. If you are referring to the previous [https://en.m.wikibooks.org/wiki/Adventist_Youth_Honors_Answer_Book Wikibooks] version, that is the old site and is no longer maintained. There is a message on the front page stating that it was moved to this Wiki.

I have identified some regional honors which we do not yet have up in the Wiki and that I thought would be great to get the requirements and pics of their respective patches. I am assuming all of these are honors. It is sometimes hard to tell from the descriptions given if they are honor requirements or just activities that will be available. Hi there,
It's been awhile since I have been on here. I noticed many conferences are setting up Online Pathfinder honors (Video/Slideshow) Some require registration and others are being uploaded on youtube, vimeo or other websites. I was wondering what would be the best option to have this linked into a list? Where Pathfinders can watch the video's with the registration link to the conference or something. I would love to talk more on this idea via e-mail or messenger or something else to brainstorm.

:: What I'm wondering is I currently have a facebook group active but the amount of Honor's being videoed by different conferences is starting to become a lot. Like 3 conferences have done Peacemaking, 2 have done firesafety. There is about 20 so far in video's, with this pandemic going for awhile. I could see more and more conferences designing new video's. I know our conference is talking about it. What I am wondering is should these video's be merged into here somehow or would it be best to come up with another site all on Teaching (video's, powerpoint, etc) The video's do have registration links to the conference main site. Maybe link those video's back to here for the honor answer book. I'm just trying to figure out something to merge it all together. I'm open to any suggestions. The Calendar has been the best idea yet for whats coming. But I'm still kinda lost on a video database for the honors. I am thinking of a streaming setup for the videos. Just not sure where to start.

They sell of lot of novelties and accessories where they kind of slap on the club logo you want: whistles with Adventurer logo, tie pins with MG logo, Medals, etc.

::::Some conferences have used them as a provider for conference-specific uniform accessories (Chesapeake uses them for an Adv. MG scarf; some conferences use them for non-sanctioned TLT scarves; California uses them for their Discovery Club; Florida used to use them for the 8-star MG logos). They duplicate much of what Advent''Source'' sells by way of uniforms, but it is usually a little more expensive.

==Series Category==
I was toying with the idea of either adding a section or a category regarding to series. By series, I mean honors that deal with very similar themes or requirements, and can be taught close together. Most honors do not fall into a series category, but I think it might be helpful for the ones that do. Here are some series I can think of now:
* First Aid series (Basic Rescue, Basic First Aid, Standard First Aid, CPR, etc.)
* Creationism/Origins series (Creationism, Biblical Archaeology, Fossils, etc.)
* Camping (Fire Building, Campcraft, Camping Skills, Tents, etc.)
* Other possible series: bugs (or insects if you want to be technical), acrobatics, botany, Bible studies...

I wouldn't want to just start making up series willy nilly, but there are honors that have been taught together or close together for a while now throughout several clubs and conferences I have visited. This might give a guide or reference for anyone that might not realize they can teach several honors close together and use the same resources and materials.

The HTML5video tag no longer works. I have installed a new extension called [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Widgets Widgets] along with a YouTube script that does the same thing (and with other scripts, we could do many other things as well). I've gone though the wiki and replaced all of the English language html5video tags, but I may have missed some. You can't just search for "HTML5video" because it's a tag, and the search results reveal nothing. :-/ So keep your eyes open for any strays I may have missed. The syntax for the widget is a bit easier:

::Hah - there was an undocumented argument to set the alignment. I set it to "center" and it is now centered. The "East American Division" was a stand-in for the NAD, and since its insignia_source argument was blank, it does not superimpose the unavailability notice. That is, it was a test of the NAD case. It doesn't select that based on the division, but rather, based on the insignia_source. You will see me renaming in Spanish lots of honors and categories and trying to fix subsequent pages and things they are linked to. This is due to the General Conference having published the Honors Poster (which can be found at [http://www.pathfindersonline.org/35-news/resourcing/436-new-honors-poster-ffic-release-from-gc-pathfinder-ministries PathfindersOnline]) and changing the name of many honors and categories. Advent''Source'' decided to update their Spanish versions to coincide and match the GC names.

This makes it cumbersome and time-consuming to change everything here on the Wiki, but I also like uniformity. Some of the changes make sense but many of them I do not agree with. Either way, just please excuse the mess if you see broken links, unfinished translations or differing things. Also, just grammatically, Spanish does not capitalize all words in a phrase as a title, only the first word. Hello all,

2 questions:

1) I have 2 honors workbook, one from 2000 (or so) and one from 2014. However, there have been some new honors added since 2014 (i.e. Mobile Technology honor, in 2016). Is there an updated honor workbook coming to include the newer honors from 2014 onward, such as the Mobile Technology honor (and others)?

2) The current Wikibooks Pathfinder Honor Answers website isn't updated to reflect a lot of the newer honors, even the 2014 Honors book. Will the Wikibooks website be updated anytime soon?

If we are to broaden our young people's minds and help them grow, us leaders to keep up with the pace and bring everything up-to-date.

:Hi Kris and welcome to the Wiki! Great questions. Here are my responses, you might get other responses from others too:

:1) The two workbooks you have, are they from the General Conference or from Advent''Source''? I ask because the GC Honors has not been updated since their last 2014 edition. However, Advent''Source'' prints material specifically for the North American Division and usually has their material up to date, according to the NAD. I would not know when the GC plans to update their material, especially since Andrés Peralta took over as the new world leader for clubs and is still trying to learn as much as he can. Many times the GC & NAD requirements can differ, so that might also be a discrepancy you also see; this wouldn't necessarily mean one is outdated, only that different versions exist according to their region.

:2) This Wiki Answer Book is actually the most updated honors resource in the world. It is comprised of volunteers within the Pathfinder community who are constantly updating the content and keeping it to the day. If you are referring to the previous [https://en.m.wikibooks.org/wiki/Adventist_Youth_Honors_Answer_Book Wikibooks] version, that is the old site and is no longer maintained. There is a message on the front page stating that it was moved to this Wiki.

I noticed many conferences are setting up Online Pathfinder honors (Video/Slideshow) Some require registration and others are being uploaded on youtube, vimeo or other websites. Like 3 conferences have done Peacemaking, 2 have done firesafety. There is about 20 so far in video's, with this pandemic going for awhile. What I am wondering is should these video's be merged into here somehow or would it be best to come up with another site all on Teaching (video's, powerpoint, etc) The video's do have registration links to the conference main site. Note: Adventist Youth Honors are approved by various levels of the Pathfinder/AY organization. Most AY Honors are adopted by the General Conference for the whole world but some honors have Division specific variations, or have only been adopted on a regional basis. Honors adopted at the GC or Division level are presented in 8 named and color coded categories, while any other Honors are presented in a regional category. The header on each Honor page shows what level of the organization has approved the Honor. Anyone is welcome to work on any Honor but may need to request the patch from the approving level or a conference office within that area.

I also sent an inquire to the Australia Division on the skill level and the years of the missing information on the Australia honours such as [Australian Birds and Land and Freshwater Mollusks] that are missing that information. We actually just finished the Australian Birds honour in our club last week.

However, I believe what that year is referring to is the edition of the Honors Manual, '''not''' the year the honor was introduced. Whenever honor requirements are updated, the manual will include the year they were updated. Also, the edition year will be stated when an honor has now been '''included''' into the NAD manual from another Division, which is not always the same year it was introduced. I am almost certain many of these honors were created before then. If you look at the list of the ones you updated, many of them are honors that were accepted and added to the NAD manual from another division, which means that they were not necessarily introduced in that year.
:Which brings me to some questions: Should the Wiki reflect the year the honor was first introduced into its division or should it list the year it was introduced to the NAD? What about honors adapted from other divisions in one year and accepted a different year into the NAD but with slight changes to the requirements (some SAD & SPD honors, such as Guitar, had their requirements modified before being accepted at GC level, and therefore NAD)? == Replacing images ==

I noticed you were trying to replace the honor image for Pigeon Raising. I, too, often update images. If you are just updating or replacing an image, you don't have to upload a completely new one. You can take the following steps:
* Click on the image. This will take you to the page where the image is filed.
* Scroll down to the file history section.
* Click on the link «Upload a new version of this file».
* Upload the replacement file.

This way, you won't have to go and change the link to the image and worry about changing the name.

Also, whenever possible, try to upload images with a transparent background. These files are usually portable network graphics and saved with the extension «.png» instead of «.bmp» or «.jpg». ::You aren't doing anything wrong. Most of the time, when you upload a new image, it will not display the new image right away. This is probably what you're seeing. As long as it says the image was uploaded, you're fine. ::A lot of times the reason you see old images instead of new ones is because your browser is caching them. Most browsers will allow you to clear the cache. Firefox used to reload everything if you pressed ctrl-R, but I don't know if that's still the case, or if other browsers do the same thing. The only images I've been able to find are the ones in the SAD Honors Manual, which are not actual images of the patch. So to get actual photos , we would have to wait for Oshkosh, meet some Pathfinders from the SAD, and hope they have actually completed those honors so that we might ask to take pictures. Looks like you got the transparent stuff working. When we got the artwork from AdventSource, they ''all'' has opaque backgrounds, and I went through all of them with Gimp. But if you have Photoshop, more power to you.

To create a page, all you have to do is create a link to it and then click on it. Then add material. W126jep and I can fix up any syntax issues, but it would be good if you would look at the source and see what we change. Actually, that's a good way to learn the wiki syntax - look at the source for anything similar to what you want to do and try to figure it out from there. You can create experimental pages under your user page or in the [[Sandbox]]. It might be a good idea to figure out the page structure before you start creating pages, but it's not hard to move them afterwards. Rearranging gets messy after you have a lot of things linking to it though, so it's a good idea to start with a solid plan. ::I've been preparing some of the pages to use the DPL cache (DPL is the Dynamic Page List extension, and is what we use to make the honor indices (see [[:Template:Honor index]]). I believe that DPL is probably more responsible for the site's sluggishness than any other single factor, so I am looking to tweak it. The caveat is that any page that has more than one instance of the honor index template (or really... uses more than one dpl tag), has to specify a cachename. I made a copy of "honor index" at [[:Template:Honor_index2]] and added the caching statement to it (i.e., a "dplcache= parameter to the dpl parser). It can't divine the name of the cached page by itself, so the user has to pass one in (cachename). If the user doesn't supply one, it just uses "1" as the cache name. As part of the experiment, I've changed the Health and Science page to use the second template (with caching). I would like to have some quantifiable data to know if it's helping though. Can you think of a way to get that? Maybe time page loads? I dunno. I have Alpha tested it on Andorid Tablets and Phones and Windows computers and it has been successful. The application runs offline, so there is no need for internet to have it in the palm of the hand. :These were supposed to be a new series of honors that were to be an integrated part of the new Pathfinder curriculum. This started when someone proposed new honors to the NAD that would've included honors for certain fundamental beliefs and also different parts of Jesus's life on Earth. Instead, the NAD committee saw fit to send the proposals to the GC, who in turn used the ideas in the proposal to develop these new honors and make them a part of the new curriculum for the GC. However, this happened at the time that Jonatán Tejel retired as World Pathfinder Leader and Andrés Peralta came onboard. Because of this transition in leadership, this idea was put on pause as Andrés Peralta has a lot to review and handle beginning his new ministry. The new Pathfinder curriculum has been made available on the [http://youth.adventist.org/ GC site], but it did not incorporate the Bible Discovery and Jesus Collection as originally planned. The daily devotional is also made available on the GC site and is updated as soon as the material is made available.

I think there may be a discrepancy for Triathlon(Advanced) AdventSource says 2001. This website says 1956. I looked in our Recreation honour hard copy 6th edition from 1998 and Triathlon is not located in the honour book. 
I also sent an inquire to the Australia Division on the skill level and the years of the missing information on the Australia honours such as [Australian Birds and Land and Freshwater Mollusks] that are missing that information. We actually just finished the Australian Birds honour in our club last week.

However, I believe what that year is referring to is the edition of the Honors Manual, '''not''' the year the honor was introduced. Whenever honor requirements are updated, the manual will include the year they were updated. Also, the edition year will be stated when an honor has now been '''included''' into the NAD manual from another Division, which is not always the same year it was introduced. I am almost certain many of these honors were created before then. If you look at the list of the ones you updated, many of them are honors that were accepted and added to the NAD manual from another division, which means that they were not necessarily introduced in that year.

I noticed you were trying to replace the honor image for Pigeon Raising. I, too, often update images. If you are just updating or replacing an image, you don't have to upload a completely new one. You can take the following steps:
* Click on the image. This will take you to the page where the image is filed.
* Scroll down to the file history section.
* Click on the link «Upload a new version of this file».
* Upload the replacement file.

This way, you won't have to go and change the link to the image and worry about changing the name.

Also, whenever possible, try to upload images with a transparent background. These files are usually portable network graphics and saved with the extension «.png» instead of «.bmp» or «.jpg». ::You aren't doing anything wrong. Most of the time, when you upload a new image, it will not display the new image right away. This is probably what you're seeing. As long as it says the image was uploaded, you're fine. ::A lot of times the reason you see old images instead of new ones is because your browser is caching them. Most browsers will allow you to clear the cache. Firefox used to reload everything if you pressed ctrl-R, but I don't know if that's still the case, or if other browsers do the same thing. The only images I've been able to find are the ones in the SAD Honors Manual, which are not actual images of the patch. So to get actual photos , we would have to wait for Oshkosh, meet some Pathfinders from the SAD, and hope they have actually completed those honors so that we might ask to take pictures. Looks like you got the transparent stuff working. When we got the artwork from AdventSource, they ''all'' has opaque backgrounds, and I went through all of them with Gimp. But if you have Photoshop, more power to you.

To create a page, all you have to do is create a link to it and then click on it. Then add material. W126jep and I can fix up any syntax issues, but it would be good if you would look at the source and see what we change. Actually, that's a good way to learn the wiki syntax - look at the source for anything similar to what you want to do and try to figure it out from there. You can create experimental pages under your user page or in the [[Sandbox]]. It might be a good idea to figure out the page structure before you start creating pages, but it's not hard to move them afterwards. Rearranging gets messy after you have a lot of things linking to it though, so it's a good idea to start with a solid plan. ::I've been preparing some of the pages to use the DPL cache (DPL is the Dynamic Page List extension, and is what we use to make the honor indices (see [[:Template:Honor index]]). I believe that DPL is probably more responsible for the site's sluggishness than any other single factor, so I am looking to tweak it. The caveat is that any page that has more than one instance of the honor index template (or really... uses more than one dpl tag), has to specify a cachename. I made a copy of "honor index" at [[:Template:Honor_index2]] and added the caching statement to it (i.e., a "dplcache= parameter to the dpl parser). It can't divine the name of the cached page by itself, so the user has to pass one in (cachename). If the user doesn't supply one, it just uses "1" as the cache name. As part of the experiment, I've changed the Health and Science page to use the second template (with caching). I would like to have some quantifiable data to know if it's helping though. Can you think of a way to get that? Maybe time page loads? I dunno. :These were supposed to be a new series of honors that were to be an integrated part of the new Pathfinder curriculum. This started when someone proposed new honors to the NAD that would've included honors for certain fundamental beliefs and also different parts of Jesus's life on Earth. Instead, the NAD committee saw fit to send the proposals to the GC, who in turn used the ideas in the proposal to develop these new honors and make them a part of the new curriculum for the GC. However, this happened at the time that Jonatán Tejel retired as World Pathfinder Leader and Andrés Peralta came onboard. Because of this transition in leadership, this idea was put on pause as Andrés Peralta has a lot to review and handle beginning his new ministry. The new Pathfinder curriculum has been made available on the [http://youth.adventist.org/ GC site], but it did not incorporate the Bible Discovery and Jesus Collection as originally planned. The daily devotional is also made available on the GC site and is updated as soon as the material is made available.

Looks like you got the transparent stuff working. When we got the artwork from AdventSource, they ''all'' has opaque backgrounds, and I went through all of them with Gimp. But if you have Photoshop, more power to you.

To create a page, all you have to do is create a link to it and then click on it. Then add material. W126jep and I can fix up any syntax issues, but it would be good if you would look at the source and see what we change. Actually, that's a good way to learn the wiki syntax - look at the source for anything similar to what you want to do and try to figure it out from there. You can create experimental pages under your user page or in the [[Sandbox]]. It might be a good idea to figure out the page structure before you start creating pages, but it's not hard to move them afterwards. Rearranging gets messy after you have a lot of things linking to it though, so it's a good idea to start with a solid plan. ::I've been preparing some of the pages to use the DPL cache (DPL is the Dynamic Page List extension, and is what we use to make the honor indices (see [[:Template:Honor index]]). I believe that DPL is probably more responsible for the site's sluggishness than any other single factor, so I am looking to tweak it. The caveat is that any page that has more than one instance of the honor index template (or really... uses more than one dpl tag), has to specify a cachename. I made a copy of "honor index" at [[:Template:Honor_index2]] and added the caching statement to it (i.e., a "dplcache= parameter to the dpl parser). It can't divine the name of the cached page by itself, so the user has to pass one in (cachename). If the user doesn't supply one, it just uses "1" as the cache name. As part of the experiment, I've changed the Health and Science page to use the second template (with caching). I would like to have some quantifiable data to know if it's helping though. Can you think of a way to get that? Maybe time page loads? I dunno. :All of those are excellent ideas, but we would need to get permission from the copyright holders to add that material here (though if you already know where it exists online, we could certainly add a link to that). There is an Adventurers project over on Wikibooks (which is where this started before the NAD adopted us). It would be nice if they would come over here as well. I have invited them at the NAD level, and though they seemed interested, that's as far as it went. I'll bring it up again in January during the annual meeting, and see if they are interested in having the person who did the work on Wikibooks move that work over here.
:There is nothing stopping anyone from creating Powerpoints and uploading them here. If you click on the "Upload file" link in the left panel, you will see that ppt is an acceptable file type. Then you can add it to a page the same way you'd add an image <nowiki>[[File:filename.ppt]]</nowiki>. I've thought about doing that myself several times, but my ppt's always look like they were made by a ppt novice (which is in fact, quite true!)

::I myself have been an instructor at Leadership Training in a few different conferences. I always have to tweak or change my presentations when presenting in different conferences, because much of the material can be region-specific. For example, I was teaching in one conference the rules of competing in a marching competition. In this certain conference, only Pathfinders or TLTs could be the drill instructors and participate in marching competitions. Yet in another conference where I taught the same thing, their conference allowed adults, directors, and Master Guides to be instructors and participate. Different conferences also have to adhere to different laws according to their region, thus trainings on rules for child abuse, background checks, etc. will vary as well.
::If you look at the new AYMT material provided by the NAD (here is the link: [http://www.pathfindersonline.org/leaders/aymt-training AYMT Training]), their seminar descriptions just give a broad summary of what should be covered in that particular seminar. This was done on purpose so that local leaders can adapt material to suit the needs of their local clubs and churches.
::Basically, what I'm trying to say is that we technically ''could'' put up training seminars, but the NAD is so vast and diverse that it probably wouldn't really assist anyone in actually learning the material they need to know. For example, a training seminar from British Columbia on how to camp during the winter months would probably not really benefit a club from Miami, Florida! This is why each conference is supposed to hold Leadership Conventions or similar at least once a year.

== The Other Category ==

With the expansion of the wiki to include MG, silver & gold awards, and the pastor's pin (et al), it would be better if we created a new template rather than use the honor_desc (which stands for honor descriptor) template. I haven't noticed any problems yet, but all the indices are built now by extracting information from honor_desc. In other words, we don't add things to the indices - they get added automatically when a page uses the honor_desc template. This means there's a good chance we could add non-honors to the indices by accident. I think setting the category to "Other" has prevented this so far, but I'd rather not stress the structure by adding things to it that it was not intended to support. By using a new template, we could also change the color scheme (and layout) so that people won't think that the pastor's pin or MG are just different honors. The template is already complicated enough, so I really don't want to adjust it to accommodate a new type of page. :I was thinking that last night. I just wasn't quite sure how to create the template. Colour scheme we could go with grey. Its a pretty neutral colour. We really don't need the date of when it was created unless your using it for trivial. I think all of these are approved by the GC, unless there are other awards in other countries. But we could expand that category by quite a bit. There is the TLT, AYMT, BST program we could put the requirements on. Even Scribe and Captain pins could be put into the category. I find the structure of the honours a lot easyier to read than the Retired Honour Table. Could we throw the Oshkosh pins and badges in here or would they be going into retired badges? There is no need of skill level for these.

== Ordering Division Honors & Completion Percentage of an Honor ==

I have a few Pathfinders here that just recently completed an honor from another division. How does one go about ordering it? They are from South America and Australia. But they are not under the NAD [AdventSource].

My other question is, I am hearing rumors that if a person completes 80% of the honor they can receive the honor. Is this true and if so does it apply to classwork also?

:1) We have a page in the Pathfinder Wiki that gives a general explanation about ordering and purchasing regional honors from other divisions found [[Adventist_Youth_Honors_Answer_Book/Purchase|here]] (it should probably be updated a bit). The reality is that in order to receive the patch, you must contact any of the official vendors from that division. Many times this might be from stores within those countries (similar to Advent''Source'' in the NAD), or it might be from local conference offices of these territories.

:The only real way to know is to contact these conferences or stores. This can be done by e-mail or telephone. You would have to do some research to find out who to contact in those divisions. For the SAD, in order to contact them, you will have to either speak their native language (Portuguese or Spanish) or find some means of interpretation services. Or hope someone there speaks English!

:I have some contacts within the SAD where I have purchased items before so I might be able to assist if you would like.

:2) An honor is completed when all requirements have been fully satisfied. The patch is only awarded to those who have duly fulfilled all necessary requirements. I have never heard of this «80%» before, but it is completely untrue.

:Some honors have requirements where you can choose between different options to complete; this might make it ''seem'' like you are only completing 80%, but in reality you are still satisfying all necessary requirements.

:The same goes for IA curricula. All necessary requirements must be completed fully in order to be invested in that level. Each level has the basic requirements and the advanced requirements. If a Pathfinder is only completing the basic level, then there is much material in the booklet that he or she will not complete, since it is not necessary for basic level. If a Pathfinder wishes to be invested in the advanced level (and therefore receive the advanced ribbon bar), he or she must fulfill all advanced requirements as well. Again, this disparity might make it ''seem'' as if only 80% is being done, but everything necessary is being completed.

:If this 80% rule were true (and it's not), how would you measure that 80%? If you have 10 questions, only complete 8? What if you have only two questions? Completing only one question would make it only 50% complete, not 80%. How would you choose which questions to complete?

:Most honors have a «theoretical» and a «practical» component. For example, [[Adventist_Youth_Honors_Answer_Book/Arts_and_Crafts/Duct_Tape|Duct Tape]] has questions about what is duct tape and how can you use it. It also has a part where you must actually build something with duct tape. So if only 80% were required to receive the patch, could a Pathfinder technically only complete the book answer work and not have to actually use duct tape?

:This idea of 80% completion goes against the philosophy and purpose of the AY honors, which can be found [http://www.pathfindersonline.org/honors/new-honors-submission here]. They sell of lot of novelties and accessories where they kind of slap on the club logo you want: whistles with Adventurer logo, tie pins with MG logo, Medals, etc.

::::Some conferences have used them as a provider for conference-specific uniform accessories (Chesapeake uses them for an Adv. MG scarf; some conferences use them for non-sanctioned TLT scarves; California uses them for their Discovery Club; Florida used to use them for the 8-star MG logos). They duplicate much of what Advent''Source'' sells by way of uniforms, but it is usually a little more expensive.

::::PathfinderShirts is not allowed to sell any IA emblems or other investiture material since they are not an official provider for the NAD. You can use them to buy lots of interesting accessories, but these things are usually not a required part of any uniform.

==Series Category==
I was toying with the idea of either adding a section or a category regarding to series. By series, I mean honors that deal with very similar themes or requirements, and can be taught close together. Most honors do not fall into a series category, but I think it might be helpful for the ones that do. Here are some series I can think of now:
* First Aid series (Basic Rescue, Basic First Aid, Standard First Aid, CPR, etc.)
* Creationism/Origins series (Creationism, Biblical Archaeology, Fossils, etc.)
* Camping (Fire Building, Campcraft, Camping Skills, Tents, etc.)
* Other possible series: bugs (or insects if you want to be technical), acrobatics, botany, Bible studies...

I wouldn't want to just start making up series willy nilly, but there are honors that have been taught together or close together for a while now throughout several clubs and conferences I have visited. This might give a guide or reference for anyone that might not realize they can teach several honors close together and use the same resources and materials.

I have deleted the grid. I have also changed [[Investiture Achievement/Friend/Honor Enrichment]] to include honor indexes in tabular form using [[Template:Honor_index]], having decided that once filtered, none of the indices are really too big to include on an IA page after all. I did mix Arts & Crafts and Household Arts in one index, and Recreation, Vocational, and Outdoor Industries in the other. It would have been easier to make five indexes, but I think I like two. If someone cares that they are choosing A&C vs Household, they can always sort them by the Category column. But I think it's better to have an intermingled list so they're paying attention to the honor rather than to which of the two (or three) categories. I've talked to a few pathfinders/clubs in our area that use this website for the honors. They find the main page with all the honours takes a very long time for loading depending on their speed connection, somewhere between a couple seconds to 10 minutes. All the other pages or links are fast for them but this one takes awhile. I know the images of the honours has a lot to do with it. Some of the pathfinders that I spoke to know what honour there looking for or they want to look in a specific category to look for that honour. Just a thought is it possible to only have the categories on the main page and than have another page that lists all the honours on it? I know its a lot to ask. There are actually two versions of Zoology Master - the SPD still lists theirs and it has a different design and requirements. I've talked to a few pathfinders/clubs in our area that use this website for the honors. They find the main page with all the honours takes a very long time for loading depending on their speed connection, somewhere between a couple seconds to 10 minutes. All the other pages or links are fast for them but this one takes awhile. I know the images of the honours has a lot to do with it. Some of the pathfinders that I spoke to know what honour there looking for or they want to look in a specific category to look for that honour. Just a thought is it possible to only have the categories on the main page and than have another page that lists all the honours on it? I know its a lot to ask. I have had to go in every once in a while and edit the text to either separate or put together the template brackets so that I might be able to properly save the translation. For some odd reason, the software will not save the translation chunk if it is missing a pair of brackets. :All of those are excellent ideas, but we would need to get permission from the copyright holders to add that material here (though if you already know where it exists online, we could certainly add a link to that). There is an Adventurers project over on Wikibooks (which is where this started before the NAD adopted us). It would be nice if they would come over here as well. I have invited them at the NAD level, and though they seemed interested, that's as far as it went. I'll bring it up again in January during the annual meeting, and see if they are interested in having the person who did the work on Wikibooks move that work over here.
:There is nothing stopping anyone from creating Powerpoints and uploading them here. If you click on the "Upload file" link in the left panel, you will see that ppt is an acceptable file type. Then you can add it to a page the same way you'd add an image <nowiki>[[File:filename.ppt]]</nowiki>. I've thought about doing that myself several times, but my ppt's always look like they were made by a ppt novice (which is in fact, quite true!)

::I myself have been an instructor at Leadership Training in a few different conferences. I always have to tweak or change my presentations when presenting in different conferences, because much of the material can be region-specific. For example, I was teaching in one conference the rules of competing in a marching competition. In this certain conference, only Pathfinders or TLTs could be the drill instructors and participate in marching competitions. Yet in another conference where I taught the same thing, their conference allowed adults, directors, and Master Guides to be instructors and participate. Different conferences also have to adhere to different laws according to their region, thus trainings on rules for child abuse, background checks, etc. will vary as well.
::If you look at the new AYMT material provided by the NAD (here is the link: [http://www.pathfindersonline.org/leaders/aymt-training AYMT Training]), their seminar descriptions just give a broad summary of what should be covered in that particular seminar. This was done on purpose so that local leaders can adapt material to suit the needs of their local clubs and churches.
::Basically, what I'm trying to say is that we technically ''could'' put up training seminars, but the NAD is so vast and diverse that it probably wouldn't really assist anyone in actually learning the material they need to know. For example, a training seminar from British Columbia on how to camp during the winter months would probably not really benefit a club from Miami, Florida! This is why each conference is supposed to hold Leadership Conventions or similar at least once a year.

== The Other Category ==

With the expansion of the wiki to include MG, silver & gold awards, and the pastor's pin (et al), it would be better if we created a new template rather than use the honor_desc (which stands for honor descriptor) template. I haven't noticed any problems yet, but all the indices are built now by extracting information from honor_desc. In other words, we don't add things to the indices - they get added automatically when a page uses the honor_desc template. This means there's a good chance we could add non-honors to the indices by accident. I think setting the category to "Other" has prevented this so far, but I'd rather not stress the structure by adding things to it that it was not intended to support. By using a new template, we could also change the color scheme (and layout) so that people won't think that the pastor's pin or MG are just different honors. The template is already complicated enough, so I really don't want to adjust it to accommodate a new type of page. :I was thinking that last night. I just wasn't quite sure how to create the template. Colour scheme we could go with grey. Its a pretty neutral colour. We really don't need the date of when it was created unless your using it for trivial. I think all of these are approved by the GC, unless there are other awards in other countries. But we could expand that category by quite a bit. There is the TLT, AYMT, BST program we could put the requirements on. Even Scribe and Captain pins could be put into the category. I find the structure of the honours a lot easyier to read than the Retired Honour Table. Could we throw the Oshkosh pins and badges in here or would they be going into retired badges? There is no need of skill level for these.

Before I made the edit, the chunks marked to translate were separated into two; the chunk before "|range" and the chunk after it. These are parts, though, of the same template. For some odd reason, the software will not save the translation chunk if it is missing a pair of brackets. I have been wanting to create [[Adventist_Youth_Honors_Answer_Book/Retired_Insignia|this page]] for a long time, as previously discussed in another thread. I finally decided to go ahead and just get it started and see where it goes from there. I'm not sure where a link to it would belong, so I haven't put one up yet. My hope is that it will also be a page with useful information for the Adventist Youth Ministries Museum that Dixie Plata and others are collaborating on.

I still have some more patches around that I want to put up and I know that there are people out there who could definitely contribute too! If you're one of them, upload those images! :All of those are excellent ideas, but we would need to get permission from the copyright holders to add that material here (though if you already know where it exists online, we could certainly add a link to that). There is an Adventurers project over on Wikibooks (which is where this started before the NAD adopted us). It would be nice if they would come over here as well. I have invited them at the NAD level, and though they seemed interested, that's as far as it went. I'll bring it up again in January during the annual meeting, and see if they are interested in having the person who did the work on Wikibooks move that work over here.
:There is nothing stopping anyone from creating Powerpoints and uploading them here. If you click on the "Upload file" link in the left panel, you will see that ppt is an acceptable file type. Then you can add it to a page the same way you'd add an image <nowiki>[[File:filename.ppt]]</nowiki>. I've thought about doing that myself several times, but my ppt's always look like they were made by a ppt novice (which is in fact, quite true!)

::I myself have been an instructor at Leadership Training in a few different conferences. I always have to tweak or change my presentations when presenting in different conferences, because much of the material can be region-specific. For example, I was teaching in one conference the rules of competing in a marching competition. In this certain conference, only Pathfinders or TLTs could be the drill instructors and participate in marching competitions. Yet in another conference where I taught the same thing, their conference allowed adults, directors, and Master Guides to be instructors and participate. Different conferences also have to adhere to different laws according to their region, thus trainings on rules for child abuse, background checks, etc. will vary as well.
::If you look at the new AYMT material provided by the NAD (here is the link: [http://www.pathfindersonline.org/leaders/aymt-training AYMT Training]), their seminar descriptions just give a broad summary of what should be covered in that particular seminar. This was done on purpose so that local leaders can adapt material to suit the needs of their local clubs and churches.
::Basically, what I'm trying to say is that we technically ''could'' put up training seminars, but the NAD is so vast and diverse that it probably wouldn't really assist anyone in actually learning the material they need to know. For example, a training seminar from British Columbia on how to camp during the winter months would probably not really benefit a club from Miami, Florida! This is why each conference is supposed to hold Leadership Conventions or similar at least once a year.

== The Other Category ==

With the expansion of the wiki to include MG, silver & gold awards, and the pastor's pin (et al), it would be better if we created a new template rather than use the honor_desc (which stands for honor descriptor) template. I haven't noticed any problems yet, but all the indices are built now by extracting information from honor_desc. In other words, we don't add things to the indices - they get added automatically when a page uses the honor_desc template. This means there's a good chance we could add non-honors to the indices by accident. I think setting the category to "Other" has prevented this so far, but I'd rather not stress the structure by adding things to it that it was not intended to support. By using a new template, we could also change the color scheme (and layout) so that people won't think that the pastor's pin or MG are just different honors. The template is already complicated enough, so I really don't want to adjust it to accommodate a new type of page. :I was thinking that last night. I just wasn't quite sure how to create the template. Colour scheme we could go with grey. Its a pretty neutral colour. We really don't need the date of when it was created unless your using it for trivial. I think all of these are approved by the GC, unless there are other awards in other countries. But we could expand that category by quite a bit. There is the TLT, AYMT, BST program we could put the requirements on. Even Scribe and Captain pins could be put into the category. I find the structure of the honours a lot easyier to read than the Retired Honour Table. Could we throw the Oshkosh pins and badges in here or would they be going into retired badges? There is no need of skill level for these.

I believe exactly what you said as that is why I was looking for a more correct answer. 80% could apply to all the research but not to the hands on experience. I'm curious to know where they came up with this decision. I know that some clubs here require the Pathfinders to also to write the final exam for each honour that the director would make up.
